Alt-electro act The Ready Set– spearheaded by young musician Jordan Witzigreuter– prepare to release their fourth album (we can’t believe it either- four albums, how did that happen?!) I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love; a sweet love-letter of quirky electronic pop-rock.

Some albums, when you hit play, hurtle you into a breathless whirlwind of noise and energy. Others do the opposite, washing over you like an ocean wave; soothing, calming, grounding. I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love is undoubtedly the latter. From the mellow vibes of ‘Good Enough’ to the loveable bubblegum-pop of ‘Run With Me’ and the easy-going reggae of ‘No Love’, we are transported to a cool American house party, melting onto a couch surrounded by a fog of thick, sweet smoke and smooth alcohol, unwinding to Witzigreuter’s angelic voice.

If one word could describe this album, however, it’d be this: safe. Now, that’s not a bad thing. It works, for one- when tracks such as ‘First’ aren’t a million miles from likes of recent Justin Bieber and Jason Derulo, we know that much for damn sure! Despite soaring, upbeat highs in ‘Being Afraid’ and catchy hooks in title track ‘I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love’, this record is just too comfortable. It’s like cuddling up with an old blanket your nan knitted when you were six years old- and that’s not what you want from a brand new album.

But so what if it might be a little lukewarm? The Ready Set have delivered a fine piece of chilled-out electro alt-pop with I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love, and that will be enough to please, impress and satisfy fans.

I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love is set for release on 8th April 2016 via Hopeless Records.
