Everyone loves Weezer. From the pretentious music snob to the spaced-out stoner, they seem to tick all boxes alike. After a triumphant return in 2014, tonight is the last stage in removing the question mark that has hovered over their heads this past decade and, rest assured, the release of latest album Weezer (White Album) shows that the new-old Weezer are here to stay.

Fashionable as ever, frontman Rivers Cuomo graces the stage donned in a flash white suit followed by the rest of the band, before bursting into new beach-rock track ‘California Kids’, followed later by similarly subdued ‘L.A. Girlz’ and the groovy, spaced-out euphoria of ‘Do You Wanna Get High?’. If you think these are hits, they’re nothing compared to the playful power pop tune ‘Thank God For Girls’, and even that is overshadowed by the raucous wailing of latest single ‘King Of The World’. These new tracks confirm that, in camp Weezer, normality has been restored.

Weezer storming their setlist, with a stellar selection that spans their back catalogue as well as prime picks from the White Album. Fans sail through Weezer’s best hits, sparking up to ‘Hash Pipe’ and humming riffs of ‘El Scorcho’, which what they’ve all been so desperately awaiting tonight. Rewinding to the bellowing rock anthems of debut Weezer (Blue Album)Say It Ain’t So’ and ‘Undone – The Sweater Song’; Pinkerton’s insatiable dance single ‘The Good Life’; Green Album’s sleeper crowd-pleaser ‘Island In The Sun’ and Red Album’s mammoth F-you tune ‘Pork and Beans’, with a hefty dose of everything in between- including previous album’s comeback stomper ‘Back To The Shack’ and Raditude’s mod-inspired ‘(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To’- this tight-as-heck set leaves very little wanting.

With an encore of cruiser track ‘Beverly Hills’ and the pop-tastic ‘Buddy Holly’, Weezer take a majestic goodbye bow, only confirming that, tonight, the kings of slack pop-rock have reclaimed their throne.
