My Chemical Romance are probably one of the most loved bands ever! We’ve been waiting since 2013 for a reunion and some new music from Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, Mikey Way and Bob Bryar. They first blessed our ears back in 2001 with their first song ‘Skylines and Turnstiles‘, then in 2002 they brought out their first album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. It’s been four years since they split so, for fans, it surely seems like now is the time for new music and a reunion. But do we really want a comeback from MCR?
Now, we know that seems like a stupid question- of course our emo hearts want a comeback! But the real question is, do we really want new music? Don’t get us wrong, we loved the phenomenal Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys back in 2010; however, what would My Chemical Romance do next? Many bands from a similar era, such as Fall Out Boy, have matured and changed their sound, possibly to gain fans – would our fantastic fivesome do the same?
We love MCR as much as the next person, but it might be time to get over our Killjoy phase and stop hoping for a reunion. We know it really isn’t as easy as it sounds, as so many of those songs speak to the fans on such a personal level. And, not to mention, the tunes are pretty awesome!
It just feels like we’re clinging onto the past and, although we feel like we would maybe love to hear from MCR just one more time, is it honestly what we want? It’s not a bad thing to still enjoy their music and the world they created, and to keep them alive in this way. Just because they split up or aren’t releasing any new music anytime soon doesn’t mean we can’t still get down to their music and show our support.
Anyway, who’s to say that if they did release new music it would live up to our expectations? They’ve got some pretty big tunes to top…
