Green Day, our favourite modern-day punks and self-proclaimed “God’s Favourite Band” (the title of their new greatest hits album, which hit the shelves last week), have released a brand new single.
‘Back In The USA‘ is featured on Greatest Hits: God’s Favourite Band and the short, sharp track has made its debut with a tongue-in-cheek music video alongside it. The video could be called satirical at best but, if we’re being frank, it’s a great big middle finger to the current state of America and, more specifically, its current president, Donald Trump.
The band, and in particular frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, have made it clear they’re not fans of the political direction the country is heading, and they’ve never been ones to shy away from politics – American Idiot, released over a decade ago, was proof of that.
But what do we think of Green Day’s latest single? They’ve faced a bit of a rollercoaster over the past few years when it comes to new material, but we reckon ‘Back In The USA‘ shows the trio are as strong as ever. Along with the awesome video, it’s one of the best tracks Green Day have released in recent years; it’s honest, it’s gutsy, it’s punchy and it’s straight-up pop-punk with a nasty bite, which is exactly what Green Day do best.
Of course, we have no idea what the band are up to next but, if ‘Back In The USA‘ is anything to go by, we can’t wait to see what’s coming!
